STAY: OIL NUT BAY

The biggest mistake visitors to the BVI make? Staying on the boat. Because after recovering and rebuilding so magnificently from the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017, the resorts of Virgin Gorda have left no doubt: The best way to experience their island is by land. Oil Nut Bay, in particular, is making this case clear. Set on 400 private acres on the eastern tip of the island, the resort is surrounded by both the tranquil turquoise water of the Caribbean and the crashing waves of the Atlantic. In other words, you get the best of two coastal worlds. And those dual benefits don’t end there. With more than 180 luxury villas (ranging in size from one to six bedrooms) built in 15 different neighborhoods, each rental has the feel of a private home. But you also have access—via a personal golf cart—to a beach club stacked with resort amenities (including three pools and a swim-up bar), in addition to a full marina for excursions, dining, and shopping. In December 2024,the resort will celebrate the opening of Sundara, a stunning new overwater spa that will focus on the healing properties of the sea. There is truly no stone left unturned here, which makes it ideal for bucket-list privacy and adventuring.
