An Awesome Virgin Gorda Excursion

If you love the outdoors, we invite you to head out for a Virgin Gorda excursion at Gorda Peak. This National Park has the perfect hiking adventure to grasp the island’s beauty and breath in the fresh Caribbean air.

Located between the North Sound and Spanish Town, Gorda Peak is an excellent place for a picnic lunch and to observe the 360-degree views of the surrounding islands. The park’s main attraction is the lookout tower, situated at the highest point of the island, 1370 feet above sea level. It offers a panoramic view of the islands and ocean, and on clear days you can see Anegada, Tortola, and St. John.

The lower entrance to the park is about a half hour hike to the top, while the higher trail access takes a little less time. The hike itself is moderate, so we encourage you to take your time and soak in all the natural beauty on your Virgin Gorda excursion. You’ll recognize that the vegetation changes by elevation, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Virgin Gorda gecko, the world’s smallest lizard. You will find picnic tables available for your packed lunch and restroom accommodations as you near the top.

From Oil Nut Bay, Gorda Peak is a short ferry and taxi ride to either of the two entrances of the national park. Our concierge team is happy to take care of any planning, so you get to those trails quickly to begin your journey up!

At Oil Nut Bay, we have a few hiking trails scattered across our 400 acres, accessible at various points in the resort. These beautiful trails range from easy to difficult and offer lovely nature hikes.

Our neighbors, Biras Creek Resort and Bitter End Yacht Club have hiking trails of their own. These are close by and easy to access from Oil Nut Bay, whether by foot or ferry.

Hiking Gorda Peak is just one of the many fantastic Virgin Gorda excursions that we hope you will try out at your next stay with us. We are confident at Oil Nut Bay that you will enjoy all the adventures, beautiful views, and activities we have to offer. We encourage you to take advantage of every amenity on your next BVI vacation.
